September 17, 1986 - The Tipton Conservative

Funeral services for Mrs. Charles (Irene A.) Gibbons, 72, were held at St. Mary's Catholic church Sept. 12 with the Rev. Joseph P. Hines and the Rev. Daniel Mannhardt officiating. Burial was in St. Mary's cemetery. Pallbearers were Jim Moore, Bill Fields, Dick Ferguson, Jim Wilson, Hermann Onken and Mike Cord. Kathy Schott was organist and Joe Mallie vocalist. The rosary was held Sept. 11.

Mrs. Gibbons died at Cedar Manor Sept. 10.

The daughter of Amos J. and Blanche Krupna Suchomel, she was born near Morris in Johnson county May 30, 1914. She graduated from Tipton high school in 1932. She was married to Charles L. Gibbons in St. Bridget's church at Solon in 1935.

The couple owned and operated Gibbons Drug Store in Tipton until their retirement in 1974. She spent her life in the Tipton area. She was a member of St. Mary's church, St. Mary's Guild, The Tipton Federated Garden club and the Tipton Woman's club.

She is survived by a daughter, Cathleen G. Burnett, Williamsburg, Mass.; a son, Charles J. Gibbons, Omaha, Nebr.; 3 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; 5 sisters, Marcella Netolicky, Solon; Lillian Suchomel, Tipton; Mary Jean Johnson, Alexandria, Va.; Betty Compton, Durant and Marlene Zearing, Emmettsburg and 2 brothers, Robert, West Branch and William, Iowa City.
