Funeral services for Charles Mountain, 91, a native of Cedar county, were held in West Des Moines March 26 with burial in West Des Moines. Mr. Mountain died at a Muscatine hospital March 21. Memorial services were held in Muscatine March 23.

The son of Ross and Arvesta Whitacre Mountain, he was born in Cedar county, north of West Liberty, May 23, 1887. He attended the West Liberty schools and Iowa State University.

He lived 28 years in Cedar county and then spent the next 55 years in West Des Moines. For the past 9 years he had lived in Muscatine.

His marriage to Ethel Pearson took place in Cedar county June 5, 1912. She died in 1977.

He had been employed as a Guernsey cattle breeder, and was past president of the Polk County Farm Bureau, the West Des Moines Chamber of Commerce and the West Des Moines Lions club. He was an honorary member of the Block and Bridle club at Iowa State University and also of the Iowa Master Farmer organization. In 1957 he received the West Des Moines Citizenship Award and was past chairman of the board of the West Des Moines Christian church. Mr. Mountain had been a 22-year member of the board of directors of the West Des Moines State bank and was instrumental in the organization of the YMCA in West Des Moines.

He had lived at Valley View Manor, Muscatine.

Survivors include 2 daughters, Mrs. John A. (Maire) Clark, Ann Arbor, Mich. and Mrs. John R. (Eloise) Wright, St. Louis, Mo.; 4 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Two brothers preceded him in death.
