“George W Mallory was born in Mt Pleasant, Iowa, December 12th, 1861, and died at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, march 24th, 1918, aged 51 years, 3 months and 12 days. He continued a resident of the Mount Pleasant vicinity unitl 1883, coming to Anita, which was his home until February, 1910, whien he moved to Dallas Center, Iowa, and engaged in business, in which he was successful. During the year 1883 he was united in marriage to Miss mary Ellen Wilson, of this city (Anita), and to this marriage were born; two sons and two daughters; one son dying in infancy, and a daughter, Mrs. W L Bennett, dying during the year 1910, at the age of 21 years.
Death was the result of a most severe attack of appendicitis. On the advice of th attending physcian he was taken to Mercy hospital in Des Monies, where an operation was performed, but without success; his condition developing the fact that the disease had already accomplished its deadly result.
His remains were brought to Anita, and the funeral services held at the Christian church, conducted by Rev. G.E. Nichols; interment taking place in the Evergreen Cemetery. The service was largely attended.
Of his immediate family there is left to mourn his death, his wife, one daughter and one son; Mrs. HA Karnes of this city, and Daniel M Mallory of Dallas Center. Also four brothers, John H and James of Wiota; Seymour and Osbert of this city. George Mallory was a well-known man in Anita and vicinity. His many years’ residence in here made it possible for him to form amny friendships he retained. Let it be said to his credit that he was honest, big-hearted, and to the extent of his abililty, open-handed and liberal; and he was one of those men who never forgot a kindly act, or went back on a friend. During the last hours of his illness, he realized that the end was near; and with an expression of faith and belief in a future state, sending a message to those left behind, full of hope and desire to meet them beyond earth’s partings, he bravely met and answered the final summons.” Anita Record
