CHARLES W. HOOK Dies In Cedar Rapds

Charles W. Hook, 79, a long time former resident of Anita, died at his home at 1546 Fourth Avenue in Cedar Rapids Monday noon, June 10. He had been in poor health for nearly a year.

Charles West Hook, the eldest son of the late Walter and Flavia Hook was born at Galesburg, Illinois, December 20th, 1866 and came to the Hook farm near Anita with his parents in 1872. He grew to young manhood in the community and attended the Anita school before there was a high school. Later he attended the Duncan Business college at Davenport, returning to Anita and entered into the Real Estate business with the late Edwin Cate. He also took up the Fire Insurance business which he worked in this community until he became associated with the Farmers Insurance Company of Cedar Rapids, some 42 years ago, when he left Anita to live in that city. He has been very active in the civic affairs of that community.

He was united in marriage to Frankie R. Jewell of Cedar Rapids on May 20th, 1913.

Mr. Hook was a fifty-year Mason, belonging to Obedience Lodge of Anita. In Cedar Rapids he belonged to the Commandary Knight Templar and Royal Arch Masons, The Royal and Select Masters of Iowa and Palestine Council No. 27 R. and S. M. and was a life member of El Kahir Shrine Temple A. A. N. M. S.

He is survived by his widow, one step daughter, Mrs. E. J. Myers of Hollywood, California; one step son, Dr. A. R. Jewell, Napa, Cal.; a sister, Miss Vera B. Hook, Anita; two grandsons and a grand daughter.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the Beatty Chapel with burial and graveside services at Evergreen cemetery in Anita, Thursday, June 13, at 3 p.m.
