Rites Friday for Marlin Shelstrom
Marlin R. Shelstrom, 51, superintendent of the Elkhorn-Kimballton Community School District for seven years, died Tuesday night, Sept. 19, at Myrtue Hospital in Harlan, following an illness of several weeks.
Mr. Shelstrom, a native of Essex, Iowa, came to Adair as athletic coach and high school principal in 1947. After serving in that capacity for two years, he succeeded L. L. Long as superintendent of the Adair schools. Here came here from Neola.
Mr. Shelstrom became superintendent of the Elk Horn-Kimballton schools in 1965.Survivors include his wife, Patricia; a daughter, Mrs. Michael (Sharon) Baker of Des Moines; a son Mark of Maryville, Mo., and a grandson.
Funeral services were held at 2 o’clock Friday afternoon at the Lutheran Church in Elk Horn.
