HAROLD NELSON RITES IN LEWIS
Funeral services for Harold LeRoy Nelson, 76, of Lewis will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Lewis United Congregational Methodist Church, with the Rev. Mel Ammon officiating. Interment will be in the Oakwood Cemetery at Lewis.
Mr. Nelson, lifelong Cass County resident and manager of the Joyce Lumber Company for 42 years, died early Sunday at the Cass County Memorial Hospital.
The son of Ivan Adelbert and Cora Myrl Clow Nelson, he was born Oct. 27, 1907, at Grove City southeast of Atlantic and was reared in the Atlantic and Lewis areas. He attended the Lewis schools and was married to Georgia M. Harmon May 4, 1929, at Lewis. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary May 4, 1979.
Mr. Nelson retired from lumber business in 1972. He was a member of the Lewis United Congregational Methodist Church, active in church affairs for 57 years, was on the board of directors of the Cass County Conservation Club, served as a scoutmaster for four years and participated in many Lewis community affairs.
Surviving are his wife, Georgia; a daughter, Mrs. Richard (Mary Elizabeth) Peters of Dallas, Texas; a son, Edward Duane Nelson of El Paso, Texas; three grandchildren, Julie Ann Turnbow of Denton, Texas, Jodi Faye Peters of Dallas, Texas and Jonathon Charles Nelson of El Paso, Texas; a sister-in-law Mrs. Herschel (Gladys ) Spiker Nelson of Griswold; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by a son, LeeRoy in infancy; his parents; a sister, Nellie Mae Smith; two brothers, Virgil and Herschel Nelson.
