NELSON SERVICES MONDAY
Herschel Nelson, 77, lifelong Cass county resident, died Friday afternoon at Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic, where he had been transferred from an Omaha Hospital.
He was born Dec. 24, 1900 at Atlantic, the son of Ivan Adelbert and Cora Clough Nelson, and was married to Gladys Spiker in Council Bluffs on Oct 14, 1926.
He lived in Cass County most of his life, farming in the Griswold area before retiring and moving to town in January 1977. Mr. Nelson was a member of the Lewis Methodist Church and Lewis Masonic Lodge.
Surviving are his wife, two sons, Wendell Nelson of Christianburg, Va., and Kenneth Nelson of Griswold; two daughters, Mrs. Norman (Norma) Schoening of Silver City and Mrs. Charles (Beverly) Stockstell of Red Oak; 14 grandchildren and a brother, Harold Nelson of Lewis.
Preceding him in death were a sister, Mrs. Noel (Nellie) Smith; a brother, Virgil Nelson and a grandson.
Funeral services were held Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Central Church of Christ in Griswold with Donald Gordon, Minister officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Township Cemetery with Wagler Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Harold Perdue was organist and Rev. Gordon was soloist. In charge of flowers were Mr. and Mrs. Ed Shellburg and Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Rieken. Bearers were Charles Rieken, Marvin Darrington, Charles Smith, Marion Houser, Cal Steffen and Dean Mardesen.
