LEWIS PIONEER RESIDENT DIED FRIDAY AFTERNOON
Ivan Nelson, a longtime and well known resided of the Lewis community, passed away last Friday afternoon at the advanced age of 95 years.
Mr. Nelson passed away at the home of a son, Herschel Nelson, residing southeast of Griswold in Pleasant township.
Mr. Nelson was a native of Illinois and born at Galesburg in 1859. At a very early age he came with his parents to Cass county and this locality has since been his home. Mr. Nelson was untied in marriage to the late Cora Clow of Cumberland and they farmed in Cass county locality until their retirement and moved into Lewis. Mr. and Mrs. Nelson were privileged to observe their 62nd wedding anniversary in 1949 and only a short time later Mrs. Nelson was called from this world. When failing health finally prevented Mr. Nelson from living along in Lewis, he made his home among his children.
Mrs. Nelson was a member of the Lewis Methodist church and active in its affairs as long as health permitted.
Surviving Mr. Nelson are three sons, Virgil Nelson of Macedonia, Herschel Nelson of near Griswold and Harold Nelson of Lewis. He also leaves one sister, Mrs. Belle Leonard of Omaha; and a large number of grandchildren, besides a host of friends.
Funeral services were held this Monday afternoon from this Lewis Methodist church. The pastor, Rev. Joseph Stopford, officiated. Interment was made on the family lot in Oakwood cemetery at Lewis.
