Helen Redman Black was born November 22, 1907 in Grandriver, Iowa and died September 22, 1972 in San Manual, Arizona. She was one of four children born to George Redman and Aletha Burnett Redman who lived in several parts of Iowa, mainly Leon and Iowa City.

Mrs. Black attended public schools in Iowa City and graduated in 1925. She briefly attended the University of Iowa, however her education was interrupted by marriage when she married H. Wayne Black in March, 1933. She moved from Audubon in 1958 to Tempe, Arizona where she later attended Arizona State University and received her Batchelor's in 1962 and taught in several high schools in Arizona until her death in 1972.

Mrs. Black was survived by five children- James Howard, John , Neal, and Brian as well as two borthers and one sister at the time of ther death. Mrs. Black is buried in the Maple grove Cemetery, next to her husband, H. Wayne Black
