Herb M. Christensen, 69, of Audubon died Jan. 30, 1994 at the Audubon County Memorial Hospital in Audubon.

Survivors are his wife, Betty; his children and their spouses, Sheiree and Thad Planck of Atlantic, Brian and Tonya Christensen of Columbia, Mo.; his siter Gerda Hope of Sioux City and her husband James; three sisters-in-law, Liane Christensen of Kimballton, Ethel Christensen of Brayton, and Erna Mortensen of Kimballton; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 2, at the Hamlin Lutheran Church, with Pastor Steven Frock officiating. Interment will be in the Hamlin Lutheran Cemetery.

Military graveside services will be conducted by Harry Albertsen Post 511, AMVETS of Kimballton.

The son of Marius Eli and Laura Holmgaard Christensen, he was born April 10, 1924 on his parents' farm west of Kimballton in Shelby County and was baptized and confirmed at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Kimballton. He attended rural schools in Shelby County, high school in Kimballton and Elk Horn and graduated in 1942.

He enlisted in the Army in 1943 and during his tour of duty was stationed in Okinawa and Japan. He was discharged in 1947 and was employed at several jobs until re-enlisting in the Army in 1952, being stationed in Korea.

His marriage to Betty Buckholdt took place at the Lutheran Church in Council Bluffs May 8, 1954, and he was stationed at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. until being discharged in 1955.

They then moved to Hamlin, where he was employed by the Audubon Creamery and in 1959 they moved to Audubon. He continued to work for the creamery until it closed and later was a delivery man for Borden Dairy. He then purchased his own truck and continued milk deliveries until being forced to retire in 1981 because of illness.

Mr. Christensen enjoyed fishing, walking, and gardening and maintained his home until becoming a resident of the Friendship Home in January 1994.

He was a member of the Hamlin Lutheran Church and Harry Albertsen Post 511 AMVETS of Kimballton and had been a member of the Audubon Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother and sisters, Norman, Arnold, Ed, and Selma Christensen; Henry and Alvin Mortensen and Edith Larsen.

Honorary casket bearers will be Rick Buckholdt, Darwin and Herb P. Christensen. Casket bearers will be Doug and Ron Buckholdt, Larry Buttry Jr., Dean and Jim Christensen, and Randy Christoffersen.

Kessler Funeral Home is Audubon is in charge of arrangements and visitation is open at the funeral home.
