Funeral services for Harold E. Hansen, 82, were conducted Oct. 6, 2005 at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Audubon, with Pastor Walter J. Kukkonen officiating. Interment was in the Exira Cemetery in Exira. Honorary casket bearers were: Brent Hansen, Rob Miller, Doug Wilken and Larry Thurman. Casket bearers were: Don Wagner, Robert Miller, Lory Huerter, Delbert Thurman, Michael Smith, Chad Hansen and Keith Wilken.

Harold Edmund Hansen, the son of Rasmus H. and Matilda Petersen Hansen, was born Oct. 26, 1922, at his parents’ home in Hamilton County near Williams, and died Sept. 30, 2005, at the Friendship Home in Audubon.

Harold was baptized at a Lutheran church in Williams. In 1924, Harold’s family moved to a farm north of Atlantic, then in 1928, the family moved to a farm east of Exira. Harold was confirmed at the Exira Lutheran Church. He attended rural school, and then graduated from the Exira High School with the Class of 1941. He then helped operate the family farm east of Exira.

On Sept. 9, 1945, he was united in marriage to Maxine Udo at the Methodist Church in Atlantic. They farmed northeast of Exira until 1964. They moved and operated a farm northeast of Audubon near Viola until 1970. In January of 1971, they moved to the Los Angeles, CA area. Harold owned and operated a construction business. They retired and returned to Audubon in 1993. Harold continued to work on a part-time basis using his truck to haul grain for farmers until he decided to fully retire. Harold moved to the Friendship Home on Sept. 22, 2005.

Harold’s faith was very important to him. He was an active member and participated in many ways in each of the churches he belonged to. He belonged to the Exira Lutheran Church, the Bethel Lutheran Church in Encino, CA, and Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Audubon. Harold also was a member of the Audubon Lions Club.

Preceding him in death were his grandson, Kirk Wagner; his parents; his brother, Howard and wife, Louise Hansen and his sister-in-law, Dorothy and husband, Charles Thurman.

Harold is survived by his wife, Maxine Hansen of Audubon; his children: Diane and husband, Donald Wagner of Audubon; Roger and wife, Mary Hansen of Grant’s Pass, OR; Kathy and husband, Robert Miller of Grand Junction, CO; his grandchildren: Kristy and Kory Huerter of Pella; Kate Wagner of Ft. Bragg, NC; Chad and CeCe Hansen; Mandy and Danny York, all of Grant’s Pass; Brent and Jennifer Hansen of Anchorage, AK; Michael and Terri Smith of Tucson, AZ; Robert Miller; Tammy and Dan Harris, all of Grant’s Pass; 18 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
