Funeral services for Leland Edward Griffin, 87, were conducted Sept. 30, 2005 at the Exira Lutheran Church. Interment was in the Exira Cemetery. Casket bearers were his grandchildren: Steven Albertsen, Michael Albertsen, Teresa Immel, Laurie Stroeher, Troy Griffin, Brandee Morrow and Sonee Stenberg.

Leland Edward Griffin, the son of Earl and Elizabeth (Libby) Hoover Griffin, was born Aug. 24, 1918, on his parents’ farm near Exira, in Audubon County and died Sept. 27, 2005, at the Exira Care Center in Exira.

Leland was baptized and confirmed at the Exira Lutheran Church. He attended rural Audubon County schools, and then was employed by several farmers.

On Nov. 14, 1937, he was united in marriage to Frances Paulsen at the Exira Lutheran Church Parsonage. They worked for several area farmers, and then moved to a farm east of Exira in 1949. They operated the farm for several years, and then purchased the farm from Frances’ father. They continued farming until they retired and moved into Exira in 1995. They lived in their home then moved to the Exira Care Center in July of 2003.

Leland was a member of the Exira Lutheran Church. Leland and Frances were married for 67 years.

Preceding him in death, in addition to his wife, were: his daughter, Jo Ann and husband, Harold Albertsen; his great-grandson, Ryan Stroeher; his parents; his brother, Arnold Griffin; his sisters: Edith and husband, Keith Martin; Doris and husband, Lester Paulsen; and Myrtle and husband, Van Kline; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Elaine and husband, Robert Baier, Beulah Paulsen and Roy Johnson.

Leland is survived by his sons: Richard and wife, Shirley Griffin of Exira; and Leon and wife, Susan Griffin of Ames; his grandchildren: Steven and Genette Albertsen, Elkhorn, NE; Michael and Paula Albertsen of Council Bluffs; Teresa and Mike Immel of Adair; Laurie and Kurt Stroeher of Bellevue, NE; Troy Griffin of Des Moines; Brandee and Matt Morrow of West Des Moines; Sonee and Thomas Stenberg of St. Louis, MO; 11 great-grandchildren; his brother, Norman and wife, Imo Griffin of North Dakota; and his sister, Elsie Johnson of Exira; his sister-in-law: Marjorie Griffin of Adel; his brothers-in-law: Emmert Paulsen of Exira; LaVern and wife, Ruby Jane Paulsen of Atlantic; and Donald and wife, Eileen Paulsen of Exira; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
