Mass of the Christian Burial for Sandy Knudsen, 45, of Carroll, was conducted Aug. 25, 2005 at Holy Spirit Church in Carroll, with Father Timothy Schott and Father Joe Dillinger officiating. Interment was in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll. Honorary casket bearers were her close friends. Casket bearers were her brothers: Gary Schon, Dale Schon, Mark Schon, Jeff Schon, Joey Schon and Pat Schon, and brothers-in-law, Andre Angrick, John Pletchette and Roger Knudsen. Sandy Knudsen, the daughter of Leo and Rosemary Masching Schon was born Oct. 29, 1959, at Carroll and died Aug. 21, 2005, at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll following a long battle with cancer.

She spent her lifetime in the Carroll community and attended Holy Spirit Grade School and graduated from Kuemper High School in 1978. She then graduated from Iowa State University in Ames in 1984 with a bachelor of arts degree in education. For the past 20 years she has been a teacher in the Catholic School System in Carroll County.

On Aug. 4, 1990, she was married to Rex Knudsen at St. Joseph Church in Dedham, and the couple made their home in Carroll. Sandy has been deeply involved with the American Cancer Society and especially with the Carroll Relay for Life. She was a member of St. Lawrence Parish and the Parish Ladies Guild.

Sandy is survived by her husband, Rex Knudsen of Carroll; daughters, Allissa and Katie Knudsen at home; parents, Leo and Rosemary Schon of Carroll; brothers: Gary Schon and wife, Sheri of Glidden; Dale Schon and wife, Lori of Willey; Mark Schon and wife, Joleen of Cedar Rapids; Jeff Schon and wife, Melanie of Glidden; Joey Schon and wife, Monica of Glidden; and Pat Schon of Glidden; sisters: Mary Schon of Orlando, FL; Shirley Angrick and husband, Andre of Glidden; and Jean Pletchette and husband, John of Winterset; father and mother-in-law, John and Irene Knudsen of Audubon; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Roger and Jane Knudsen of Williamsburg; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
