The Mass of the Christian Burial for Louise Sloth, 75, were conducted July 20, 2005 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Audubon, with Father Wayne Gubbels officiating. Interment was in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Audubon. Casket bearers were: Matt Busche, Scott Busche, Bryan Sloth, Kevin Sloth, Randy Balk and Alan Brincks.

Louise Kathryn Sloth, the daughter of Clem and Florence Wiskus Balk was born Aug. 30, 1929, at her parent's home in Carroll County, near Dedham, and died July 15, 2005, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Louise was baptized at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dedham. She was confirmed at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Willey. She attended school in Dedham and Willey, then helped at home and worked for other people. Later she was employed at the egg plant in Manning.

On Jan. 4, 1955, she was united in marriage to Dale N. Sloth at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Templeton. They farmed in Viola Township for two years. Then purchased a farm in Melville Township which they operated for 40 years. They moved into their present home in Audubon in 1997.

Louise was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Audubon. She was a life member of the VFW Auxiliary Post 4119 where she held the position as Guard for a number of years.

Preceding her in death was her infant grandson, Ryan Sloth; her parents; her brother: LaVerne Balk; her brothers-in-law: Iver Sloth, Earl Sloth, and Harry Grimsman; her father and mother-in-law: Jens and Christina Sloth.

Louise is survived by her husband, Dale N. Sloth of Audubon; her children: Rick and wife, Patty Sloth of Manilla; Sandy and husband, Bob Busche of Mason City; Duane and wife, Becky Sloth of Audubon; Shelly and husband, Don Counsell of Osage; her grandchildren: Bryan and Kevin Sloth both of Manilla; Matt and Scott Busche both of Mason City; Melissa Sloth and friend Brian Jacobs, both of Omaha, NE; Jacque Sloth of Audubon; Derek and Cole Counsell both of Osage; her stepgrandchildren: Michelle and husband, Danny Davis of Mondamin; Mike and wife, Carrie Buttery of Blair, NE; her step great-granddaughter, Nikki Buttery of Blair, NE; her brothers and sisters: Thelma Grimsman of Carroll; Marlene and husband, Melvin Brincks of Roselle; Leroy and wife, Judy Balk of Templeton; Dorene and husband, Larry Gute of Carroll; Ray and wife, Faye Balk of Odessa, MO; Terry and wife, Nancy Balk of Council Bluffs; Gary and wife, Merle Balk of Manning ; her sister-in-law, Leora Sloth of Owen, WI, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
