Graveside services for Florence Sorensen Roberts, 86, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Audubon, were conducted Aug. 5, 2005 in Arlington Heights Cemetery in Audubon, with Pastor Steven Frock officiating. Interment was in the Arlington Heights Cemetery in Audubon. Casket bearers were her family and friends.

Florence Roberts, the daughter of N. Oscar and Johanne Sofie Faaborg Sorensen, was born Dec. 16, 1918, at her parents' home in Audubon County and died Aug. 2, 2005, at the Silver Pines Assisted Living Center in Cedar Rapids.

She attended rural school kindergarten through sixth grade; then the family moved to Atlantic, where she graduated from Atlantic High School in the Class of 1937.

After graduation, she worked at J.C. Penney’s for a short time. She worked at Brown’s Shoe Fit Company for eight years as a bookkeeper and sales person in charge of the Phoenix hosiery department, until her husband was discharged from the Army. She was acting manager at Brown’s for two years while manager Norman Holmes served duty in the Seabees during World War II.

On Nov. 16, 1941, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Atlantic, she was married to Oliver Roberts of Audubon. After Oliver’s discharge from the Army Air Force in 1945, they moved from Atlantic to Audubon where they lived until 1984, when they moved to Cedar Rapids.

They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1991 with a family gathering in California. Her husband died Jan. 18, 1993 in Cedar Rapids.

She was a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Audubon, a past member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Atlantic, and attended First Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids.

Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents and husband, were her sister and brother-in-law, Edith and Elmer Herman.

Florence is survived by her children: Jo Ellyn and husband, Robert Goudlock of Torrance, CA; Robin and wife, Julie Roberts of Cedar Rapids; and Rich and wife, Kim Roberts of Dallas, TX; her grandchildren: Rob and Joseph Goudlock of Torrance; Dana and Lauren Roberts of Cedar Rapids; and Lindsey and Meredith Roberts of Dallas; her brother-in-law, Perry and wife, Evelyn Roberts of Audubon; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
