Funeral services for Henry Andrew Johnson, 106, were conducted July 5, 2005 at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church west of Exira, with Pastor Curtis Denney officiating. Interment was in the Seventh-Day Adventist Cemetery west of Exira. Casket bearers were Gerry Johnson, Chester Krogstad, Luverne Petersen, Raymond Peterson, Del Rochholz and Kenneth Struble.

Henry Andrew Johnson, the son of Willie and Christina Aagaard Johnson was born Dec. 23, 1898, on a farm northwest of Exira and died June 29, 2005, at the Exira Care Center in Exira. He had eight brothers and sisters.

Henry was baptized at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church west of Exira. He attended rural school and also a church school west of Exira, then helped operate the family farm.

On Feb. 8, 1920, he was united in marriage to Lena Knudsen at her parents’ home in Exira. They lived on a farm west of Exira until 1948, when they moved into Exira to live and help care for Lena’s mother. Henry farmed until the early 1990s, when he sold the farm northwest of Exira. They moved to the Exira Care Center on May 1, 1955. Lena died Sept. 27, 2003, after the couple had celebrated 83 years of marriage.

Henry was a member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church west of Exira.

Preceding him in death in addition to his wife, Lena, were his son, Glenn D. Johnson, on May 1, 1985; and his brothers and sisters: Alvin, Edna Hays, Bertha Struble, Lydia Hansen, Minnie Laing, Myrtle Christiansen and Lester.

Henry is survived by his daughter-in-law, Bonnie Johnson of Medina, MN; his grandchildren: Beverly and husband, Arthur Wong of Hong Kong; Sherri and husband, Eric Chaffee of Medina; Gerry Johnson of Westminster, CO; his great-grandchildren: Elisa and Aaron Wong of Hong Kong; Erin and Carrie Johnson of Westminster; Sarah and Ryan Chaffee of Medina; his sister, Urlene Hamilton of Santa Monica, CA; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
