Matthew Smith, well known
Brayton young man, died Monday
afternoon at the Harlan hospital
from injuries received in an auto
accident early Sunday morning
near Harlan. He suffered a skull
fracture and minor injuries.

Harvey Hoegh, also of Brayton,
the other occupant of the car, was
uninjured. The machine, which
was not badly damaged, was re-
ported to have gotten out of con-
trol, leaving the road and rolling
over.

Mr. Smith, son of Isaac and
Grace Essington Smith, was born
on a farm one mile west of Bray-
ton, March 14, 1911. He gradu-
ated from the Exira high school
in 1929 and has made his home
since on a farm near Brayton.

Surviving are his mother, Mrs.
Grace Smith; five brothers, Hor-
ace R. Smith of Guthrie Center,
Harvey I. and Chris Smith of
Brayton, Clarence Smith of Au-
dubon and Louis A. Smith of Wa-
terloo; four sisters, Miss Gussie
Smith at home; Mrs. Harry Mil-
ler of Detroit, Michigan, Mrs.
Clarence Rohrer of Council Bluffs
and Mrs. Ole Jensen of Brands-
ville, Missouri.

Funeral services were held this
afternoon at 2 o'clock at the fam-
ily home one mile west of Bray-
ton and burial was in the Oak-
field cemetery.
