OLD SOLDIER DIES
NEAR OAKFIELD
-----------
WAS ONE OF AUDUBON COUN-
TY'S OLDEST SETTLERS AND
WAS 95 YEARS OF AGE
----------

William Gingery, second son of Wm.
and Helen (Stutz) Gingery, passed away at
his home in nOakfield on Saturday,
October 4 at 8:50 a. m., aged 95 years
and nine months.

The deceased was born in Somerset
county, Pennsylvania, January 4,
1829. His parents moved to Star
county, Ohio, when he was two years
old and it was here that he grew to
manhood. He received his early edu-
cation at Logwood, Star county, Ohio.
In 1857 he was united in marriage
to Sarah Miller and to this union
eleven children were born, six sons
and one daughter, Mrs. Will Lam-
bert, preceding him in death.

He with his family came to Iowa
in 1859 and engaged in farming in
Cass and Audubon counties for many
years.

During the rebellion he served in
the militia in Cass county and his
father was killed in the Mexican
war. (1847 in Pueblo, Mexico)

He leaves to mourn his loss four
children, Francis Gingery of Gladwin,
Michigan; Fred Gingery of Brayton;
Mrs. Ellen Hardwick of Brayton, and
Harrison Gingery of Hartington, Neb.
Also several grandchildren and great
grandchildren, and a host of friends.

His wife preceded him in death 34
years ago and since that time he has
resided with his children. In the past
few years he has received the kind
and loving care of his daughter, Mrs.
Ellen Hardwick, who has done all
that loving hands could do to make
his last years happy.

He was a constant and faithful
member of the Presbyterian church
and passed out of this life prepared
to enter the eternal realm where sick-
ness and sorrow never come. He will
be sadly missed in the community
where he has spent the greater part
of his life and where his good life
work was done. He was a man of
fine christian character, a devoted
father and a kind neighbor.

He is not dead, but gone before to
"wait his loved ones on the golden
shore."

Funeral services were conducted by
the Rev. Robert N. Chord from the
Brayton church October 6th, at two
o'clock p. m. Interment was in the
Oakfield cemetery.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to
the kind friends and neighbors who

death of our beloved father. Also for

The Gingery Children.
