A funeral Mass will be said at St. Paul's Church in Wellesley at 11 a.m. Monday for Patrick H. Plaehn, 50, a media research executive, who died Thursday at his Wellesley Hills home after a brief illness. He was vice president of marketing research at A.C. Nielsen Company's Boston office.

Born in Exira, Iowa, Mr. Plaehn attended Iowa schools and was graduated from Utah State University. He served five years in the US Air Force during the Korean conflict.

In 1959 he joined Nielsen, a national media research company headquartered in Northbrook, Ill., as a retail index field trainee, handling assignments in Maine and the Boston area, before moving up to district manager in New York City.

In 1971, he joined the clients' service at the Hackensack, N.J., office. In 1976, he transferred to a newly opened Boston office, where he became vice president of the firm.

Mr. Plaehn leaves his wife, Mary (Evers), three sons, Peter, Patrick, and Timothy, and two daughters, Mary Elizabeth and Therese Anne, all of Wellesley Hills.

He also leaves two sisters, Mary Boyer of Albuquerque, N.M., and Elizabeth O'Brien of Rochester N.Y., and one brother, Frederick, of Des Moines, Iowa.

Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Augusta, Maine.
