Township 67, Section 18, is in Wells Township. At the IAGenWeb site for Appanoose County, the township map of 1915 shows an M. T. Ewing owning 40 acres in that range and section. It's possible your ancestor farmed that land but when he retired he moved "into town" as so many other farmers did. Perhaps he gave the land to one of his sons? You can view this map at:
