Mrs. Willard Cunningham Dies

The death Sunday morning of Mrs. Willard Cunningham, well known Waukon resident, occurred at the family home early that day following a period of ill health. A few years ago she suffered a stroke followed by a more serious one a few months ago. During all this time she was tenderly cared for by her devoted husband and daughters who cheerfully gave their time to comfort her.

As Anna Marie Healy she was born in Union City township Nov. 1, 1884, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Healy. After completing her education she was a rural teacher in the Allamakee County schools for several years. On Jan. 9, 1912 she was married at St. Mary's Church Dorchester, to Willard Cunningham and they established their home on the Cunningham farm in Hanover township where they resided until they retired to Waukon about 10 years ago.

Besides her husband she is survived by four daughters and two sons, namely: Miss Dorothy, Des Moines; Mrs. Paul Schuster, St. Paul, Minn.; Mrs. E. V. Cameron, Washington, D.C.; Miss Helen at home; and Leo and Thomas, of Waukon. There are 8 grandchildren. An older brother, Mike Healy of Waukon, survives; a son, Earl died some years ago.

The remains reposed at the Martin Bros. funeral parlors until Tuesday morning when funeral services were held at St. Patrick's Church. A Requiem Mass was celebrated by the pastor, the Rev. John B. McDonald, with burial in the family lot in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Casket bearers were John Fahey, Charles Farley, Ray Howes, James Ryan, Ronald Cunningham of Prairie du Chien and John McFarland of Dubuque, relatives of the deceased.

A number of out of town relatives and friends were in attendance the the funeral services.
