A Good Man Gone.
Mr. John Cunningham died at his residence in Hanover township on Thursday, May 9, at 7 a.m, from a prolonged attack of the grippe. He had been in poor health for some time previous. The age of the deceased was 55 years, 5 months and 4 days. He was born near Rochester, N.Y., Nov, 15,1834.
When about nineteen years of age he came to Wisconsin with relatives, and from there to Iowa in June, 1854. They finally settled on section 36, Hanover township, Allamakee county, Iowa where he has lived up to the time of his death. He leaves a wife and fourteen children, nine boys and five girls, to mourn his loss.
He was fortified in his last hours by the sacraments of the Catholic Church, of which he was true and devoted member.
His funeral took place from his residence Sunday, May 11, at 8:15 a.m., to the Catholic Church in Waukon, where religious services were held, from whence the remains were taken for burial in the Waukon Catholic Cemetery, followed by a large procession of sympathizing friends.
May his soul rest in peace.
