The alphabetical and Oakland Main listings of Woodmansee show a Bearcem Mary Jane (1852-1928), with no comma after the surname. (Sources: SSDI, in the Waukon Republican-Standard & Allamakee Journal) Woodmansee correctly lists her in Oakland Alleys with her husband Terry Granneman. Sharon R. Hagemeier likely does not exist, and this entry in Woodmansee is either a transcription error or her grave is located very close to Hagemeier graves resulting in an error. (R.O.)
Grangaard, W. Conrad (1898 Jun 03-1890 Jun 22) - St. John's Addition
Death year should be 1980 not 1890. SSDI gives the following information for William Grangaard:

Harris, Henry M. (1818-1898) - Oakland Main
The Henry Harris that was in Company K, 27th Iowa is buried in Reinbeck Cemetery, Reinbeck, Grundy County, Iowa. He did live in Allamakee County for a number of years and was on the 1860, 1870, and 1880 census records in Allamakee co. However, by 1885 he was in Grundy co. IA. The 1885 'List of Ex Soldiers, Sailors and Marines Living In Iowa' says his post office address was Reinbeck. He was on the 1885 Iowa State Census in Grundy co, and the Iowa Civil War Soldier Burial Records says he was buried in Reinbeck cemetery, Reinbeck, Grundy co. IA. The photo that I have of his tombstone is in that cemetery. There is an 1883 biography for Henry M. Harris (born 1818 in England) and I suspect that the Henry M. Harris buried in Oakland Cemetery is this man, not the one that served in the 27th Iowa. (contributor: Elaine Johnson)
Harris, Mabel Liza (1890 Dec 13-1930 Oct 25) Oakland Main
Correct name is Mabel Lila Harris & she is not buried in Oakland cemetery. She's buried next to her mother in the Postville cemetery per her obituary. She was known by family & friends as Lila. Her gravestone is engraved with her full name. (R.O.)

Month of death is April and not November. Obits giving date of death 04/24/1911 appeared in the Waukon Standard, the Waukon Republican & the Allamakee Journal. 'Woodmansee' likely used the Allamakee Co. Death Records as his source for the erroneous date. (R.O.)
Hastings, Oliver Holverson (1872 Aug 03-1904 Sep 11) - Oakland Main
This is Olive Holverson Hastings. She married Irving H. Hastings April 5, 1897 in Waukon. In 1900 they lived in Jefferson Township. Haugsted, ? (Mrs. John)
Haugsted, Augusta J. (1863-1933)
Haugsted, John (?-1950)
Haugsted, Kendric V. (1858-1934)
Augusta J. Haugsted & Kendric V. Haugsted listed by Woodmansee to be buried in Lot 290 with surname Haugsted is an error - Augusta Johanna Henrietta (Miller) Ferris was born 1863 Jun 24 and died 1933 Mar 22 according to the Allamakee co. Death Records. Kendric V. Ferris was her husband. Woodmansee also has them listed correctly under surname Ferris on pg 295. There is a record of a John Haugsted who died in March 1950 in Howard County, Iowa. However there is only a death notice in the Waukon Republican-Standard and nothing to indicate he was buried in Oakland. His wife was Mabel Johnston who died in 1962 in Howard County. A obit in the Waukon Democrat indicates that she was brought back to Allamakee County, so it is likely that John is also buried there. Woodmansee does not list Mabel Haugsted, but she may be the burial with no given name or dates but annotated as Mrs. John. (R.O.)
Heiser, Vivian (1914-1959)
An obit in the Waukon Democrat gives her full name as Vivian (Heiser) Bank and that she died March 23, 1959; husband Rudolph Bank; died in Iowa City, Iowa. Her funeral was handled by Thornburg Funeral Home and burial in Oakland cemetery, Waukon. (R.O.)
Heminway, Samuel William - Oakland Main
Woodmansee also correctly lists him in Oak Hill cemetery with surname spelled Hemenway. He is not buried in Oakland cemetery, Waukon. (R.O.)

This is Isabella (Israel) Pratt w/o Marcellus H. Pratt. Isabella also has a marker in Riverside Cemetery, Spokane, WA. (R.O.)
Jackson ? - Oakland Main
An infant born & deceased 19 Aug 1932 with only the surname Jackson - might be George S. Jackson's grandson, Robert Edward Jackson who died as an infant sometime between 1928 and 1935. I have written to the Martin Funeral home and the Waukon library for more information. (contributor: Nancy J. Geitgey)

Johnson, Chris Rud (1853 1918 Jul 14) - St. John's Addition
This couple share a gravestone in St. John's addition of Oakland. The surname Rude Johnson is engraved, making it confusing. Christian Rud was born 5/22/1853, s/o John Rud. He & Karen Rud married in 1872. Chris died in July 1838 (not 1918) and Carrie in 1905. More than likely Chris took the name Johnson when he immigrated to U.S. All of their children use the surname Johnson. (R.O.)
Johnson, Claude (d. 1965 Aug 01) - 1920 Addition
Johnson, Evelyn Peterson (?-1987 Mar --) 1920 Addition
Evelyn's surname at the time of her death was Warden (wife of Charles), but she is buried with her 1st husband Albert Claudius 'Claud' Johnson in the 1920 Addition. Their gravestone has both family names Peterson and Johnson, which likely contributed to the errors. It is unknown when Charles Warden died & is buried. (R.O.)
Johnson, Sarah (1858 Oct 05-1931 Sep 15) Oakland Main
Faegre, Sarah (1858-1931) Oakland Main
These entries are the same woman. Sarah Barthell was married 3 times: 1st to Albert Faegre (she's buried w/him); 2nd to Charles Hunt & 3rd to Hans G. Johnson. She died in Minneapolis as Sarah Johnson. (R.O)

Jones, John Barton (1854 Oct 21-1932 Nov 04) - Oakland Main
Jones, Lyman (1889-1894 Nov 06) - Oakland Main
Correct names are John Barton-Jones, Ada Josephine (Goodrich) Barton-Jones and Lyman Barton-Jones.The parents are buried side-by-side, sharing a gravestone. Lyman, their young son, has a stone nearby, but no surname is engraved on it. Both John & Ada's death certificates on familysearch.org and both show last name as "Barton Jones". John had a hyphenated surname, common in British names, although he appears in various records as "Barton Jones", "Barton" or "Jones". The 1925 Iowa State census gives John's father as unkn. Jones and mother as unkn. Barton. Another son, Alfred is also buried in the lot, the name on his gravestone is Alfred Barton (without the Jones). (researched by S.F. & R.O.)

Stevens, Samuel L. - Oakland Main
Mr. Woodmansee transcribed the tombstone of Samuel L. Stevens as: born 31 Oct 1895 and died 10 Nov 1896. According to this record it would appear that Samuel L. Stevens was 1 year old when he died. This is definitely NOT the case. In 1999, I traveled to the cemetery & found the stone sunken into the ground, so the inscription was unreadable. Jan Warren assisted me in pulling up the tombstone & leveling it. Amazingly, the lettering that was buried under the ground was very well preserved. There is no birth date recorded on the stone. A listing for John J. Stillman (3/14/1840-2/15/1862) is missing from the Woodmansee book and has no dates in the WPA list. John J. Stillman's tombstone was stolen many years ago, probably before the WPA transcriptions. It was found near McGregor in Clayton County, Iowa several years ago. It was returned to Oakland Main, Lot 84, in a ceremony on October 24th, 2004. The tombstone inscription reads "John J. son of John & Mary E Stillman: Fell at Fort Donaldson while nobly defending his Countrys Flag. Feb 15, 1862. Age 22 years. A member of Co. B. 12 Regt Iowa Volunteers." There is no record of when and how John J. Stillman's body was transported to Waukon from Tennessee, if in fact it was transported there. There are 670 Union soldiers buried in the Fort Donelson National Cemetery, 512 of them unidentified. (contributor: Tom McGourin}
