Eliza Jane Spaulding was born in South Port, New York, May 8, 1838, and died March 2, 1923, aged 84 years, 9 months and 23 days. Being a daughter of a Presbyterian minister, Rev. G. Spaulding, she lived in many towns in New York and Pennsylvania during her girlhood days.

On Dec. 11, 1858, she was united in marriage to Albert Emmet Colgrove at Canisteo, N.Y. Two years later they came west and settled on a farm near Ion.

Her husband served his country in Co. I, 27th Iowa Infantry. A number of years ago the family moved to Waukon, and have lived there since.

Sister Colgrove was preceded in death by her husband July 2, 1902 and by her daughter, Mrs. Charles Hale, April 12, 1901. Two sisters have also gone to the Great Beyond, she being the last of the family to be with us.

There are left to mourn her death, Lizzie and Mrs. Geo. Durant, at home; two grandsons, Dudley C. and Nathan C. Hale, the former of Waukon and the latter in Colorado; two nieces, Mesdames J.C. Breen and Wm. Jeffries, residing at Canaseraga, N.Y.

When the family moved west Mr. and Mrs. Colgrove joined the Methodist church near Ion, and worked hard for their church during all their active years. She was an ardent worker as a member of the Woman's Relief Corps, an active member for many years of the Woman's Foreign Missionary Society, connected with her church.

"She resteth now.
No more her breast heaves with its weary breath;
Pain sits no longer on the brow,
Where lies the calm of death.
Sunk to her rest like a tired child,
She lies in slumber deep;
Soft folded in the arms of Him
Who giveth His beloved sleep."

Note: Both Elizabeth and Albert's gravestones in Oakland (Main) cemetery, spell the surname as COLEGROVE
