HISTORY OF FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH MUSCATINE, IOWA 1839-1942 by GUSTAVUS ALLBEE |
Transcribed by Cheryl Sheets, February 4, 2018 PREFACE Page 5
The Centennial Celebration of our church ought to be commemorated as a season of thanksgiving by solemn acts of devotion to Almighty God. It is and ought to be filled with memories of the past and inspiration for the future. We gather the traditions of what our fathers and founders have done in order that we may have faith and courage for what we have to do. Space permits only a brief outline of their work and accomplishments. We cannot even mention many who deserve honorable mention. Because they first prayed for the blessing of God upon all their undertakings, the results of their labor have far exceeded their most hopeful expectations. They never could have succeeded without the guidance of the Holy Spirit upon which they at all times relied. For verily it is written, “Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it.”
Let us go forward with unfaltering faith in that same divine aid with which success is certain.
