Page 70THE SECOND WORLD WAR Thirty of our young men and two of our young women have already entered the service of the United States of America. More must follow. We, who are left, need not be desolate or disconsolate. We can claim the promise of Matthew 18:19. Wherefore let our united prayers rise like a fountain for them night and day; that they may all dwell in the secret place of the most High and abide under the shadow of the Almighty. Psalms 91.
In order that all may read at a glance just how wonderfully God has prospered us in the past century and the steps by which we grew from 11 communicants to 741, I have attached hereto a statistical table largely taken from Hubbard’s History down to 1900 but direct from the Clerk’s records since that time.
I know of no better way to close this very inadequate historical sketch than to paraphrase a part of Tennyson’s prayer written for our National Centennial:
Our father’s God; From out of whose hand The centuries fall like grains of sand, We meet today, united, free, And loyal to our church and Thee, To thank Thee for the era done, And trust Thee for the opening one. Page 71
