From the History of Linn county Iowa, Vol. 1, 1911, by Brewer & Wick. P. 287:

"Among other early settlers might be mentioned Perry Oliphant and his wife Susanna, as well as his sons Silas, Edward, John, William, and Henry, and his daughters Lizzie, Mary, and Rillar. these came in 1839 or 1840."
