ROY LOUDEN
It just seems natural for Roy Louden to get into things where there is a lot of hard work attached. He doesn't draw the snaps. His latest honor, that of district governor of the Rotary club, is no exception, for, almost before the local club had finished celebrating the election, Mr. Louden was deep into his plans for the administration of his office.
For one thing, the honor entails a visitation to each of the sixty-four clubs in this district, and that involves a public appearance before each club, on its tiptoes for the visit, and a series of conferences with the directors of the club. The work will be initiated with a district conference at Marshalltown, July 27-28, when the presidents and secretaries of all the clubs gather for vigorous consultation and planning.
Mr. Louden has begun by employing a secretary who has had experience in the work, and letters are now going out in a steady stream.
He has been for eleven years a member of the local club, serving as secretary, vice president, president and member of the board of directors.
Mr. Louden was born at Loudendale, the old Louden homestead on Cedar creek, September 11, 1890. He attended Ankrom district school until he was twelve years old and then came to Fairfield where he went to the Logan school. From there he entered Parsons college academy, graduating into the college from which he received his degree in 1913. He married a classmate, Miss Antoinette McMullin of Burlington, June 11, 1914. They have one son, Tommie. In 1926 they built their beautiful new home at 905 East Adams street.
Mr. Louden played football and baseball in college, quarterback and first base being his positions. He has been a warm supporter of athletics, both in the college and high school.
As soon as he was out of college, he went to work in the Louden Machinery company as draftsman for William Louden, and then as a member of the department, as the work expanded to department size. He became advertising manager for the company in 1917, holding that position with great credit to himself until he was promoted, to the first of the present year, to the supervisorship of sales and advertising for both the farm, and industrial departments.
One of the significant contrubutions he has made to the community was his work in the first road bond election, when he directed the advertising for the campaign that resulted in the first paving in the county. He was the first president of the old Ad club a member of the board of the Community club, which attractd wide attention over the state, member of the board of directors of the Chamber of Commerce and president of the organization, member of the board of trustees of Parsons college since 1925 and a member of the executive committee as well; member of the board of directors of the Boy Scouts.
