Who's Who In Jefferson County
By Herbert F. McDougal
F. V. MORRISON
When the late E. N. Gentry died suddenly early last year and the Iowa Electric company found itself without a manager for this, one of its most important districts, it made a careful survey of its personnel, and picked F. V. Morrison, a member of its engineering staff in Cedar Rapids for the place. It has not repented its choice, for Mr. Morrison in his quiet way has made himself a part of the community and won his way into its confidence.
Because ironing day follows wash day in Fairfield, the Iowa Electric recently installed $10,000 worth of special machinery in the plant here so that no electric iron need lack current on that day. And the need was discovered, the decision made and the installation completed between ironing days--and the women of the city never even so much as knew about it, for there was no interruption of service. That was one of the problems that the new manager had to solve. He likes them. When one is solved, he is ready for the next. As the district comprises the fifteen communities of Fairfield, Libertyville, Batavia, Lockridge, Mt. Zion, Keosauqua, Banaparte (sic), Farmington, Cantril, Pulaski, Troy, Drakesville, West Grove, Selma and Oakland Mills, he has plenty of problems. The combined population of these communities is twelve thousand. In addition, this district wholesales current to Salem, Stockport and Milton. The current is produced at the Oakland Mills hydroelectric plant, and purchased from Keokuk, Ottumwa and Bloomfield.
Mr. Morrison was born in Sioux City, August 3, 1901 and attended high school and Trinity college there. He went to the University of Iowa to take his bachelor's degree in 1922 and his master's in 1923. For seven years after that he was on the executive staff of the Hanover Woolen Manufacturing company at Hanover, Illinois. He went from the assistant managership of that company to the Iowa Electric company's headquarters in Cedar Rapids.
During his school days he tried his hand at operating a steam shovel, and an electric crane, during vacations.
His hobby is reading, with biography and historical novels as his favorites. He is a Rotarian, an Elk, a C. K., a member of the Golf and Walton clubs and of the Alpha Chi Sigma, professional chemistry fraternity.
He married Miss Agnes Ann Brum of Iowa City July 26, 1924. They have three children--Richard Allen, 6; Charles Francis, 3, and Mary Ann, 4 months.
