Marriages
---October 1, 1868, by Rev. A. M. VALE, at Cape Elizabeth, Maine, Capt. A. S. JORDAN, of Fairfield, Iowa, and Miss Ada M. JORDAN, of Cape Elizabeth.
The gallant boys of the 19th Iowa infantry, ---and thousands of other friends,--- will be rejoiced to learn that their favorite officer has again enisted [sic] --- this time in the service of Hymen. May Scott and his fair bride sail down the sea of life with a calm breeze, and may the Jorden of their desires be peaceful and happy.
[Ed. note: Hymen, from Greek mythology, is the God of Marriage. A ‘jorden’ is a pot or vessel with a large neck; a chamberpot.]
Horse Thief.--- A horse thief, giving his name as N. G. BUCK and claiming to hail from Ormsville, Steuben county, N. Y., is now lodged in jail. He was arrested three miles Southwest of Batavia on the 15th inst., by Sol. F. STEVER and William LAUGHLIN. He had in his possession H. L. LAUGHLIN’s mare, one two horse wagon and a set of double harness, belonging to Mr. PATTERSON, and one set of double harness belonging to A. A. HOLMES. They were stolen within a distance of a mile and a half. He also had another mare and a top buggy, which he claims as his own. Mr. STEVER thinks the mare and buggy are both stolen.
Accident.--- We regret to learn that Patrick GRIFFIN, aged about 13 years, son of Dennis GRIFFIN, fell through the railroad bridge East of town, on Wednesday of last week, and broke one of the bones in his right arm, between the elbow and wrist. His back was also skinned. He is doing well and will be about in a day or two with his arm in a sling.
