Marriages

---November 17, 1868, at the residence of the bride’s father, Joseph BALL, Esq., by Rev. A. AXLINE, Mr. Alex. R. BURNS, of Alleghany county, Penn., and Mrs. Cynthia H. KIRKPATRICK, of Jefferson county, Iowa.

The happy groom came “away out West,” and wooed and won a treasure.  The rule is to go East and win a bride, but our friend BURNS has a true appreciation of the products of Iowa.  May he realize his fondest anticipations.  The fair bride has our heartfelt wishes for her prosperity and happiness.  May she realize the full measure of her bright anticipations.

The Universal Hay Pitcherwas awarded the First Prize Silver Medal at the Illinois State Fair;  also the First Premium at the Iowa State Fair, and wherever it has been shown.  The reason it takes so well is because it takes the hay straight up from the load, then carries it away back into the mow or on the stack and brings the fork back to the load again without any labor at all.  It is just what every farmer needs and will have for it comes cheap and does the work of from 2 to 4 hands, and saves all the hard labor.    We want reliable agents to sell in every town and county in the United States.  It is one of the best selling things out, and we give the very best inducements.  Call at the factory, 5 miles southeast of Fairfield, or address    WM. LOUDEN, Fairfield, Iowa.

I am also the agent for the Lamb Knitting Machine --the best in the world.  It will knit a pair of socks in half an hour as good as can be done by hand.  Making a genuine heel and narrowing the toe complete.  It knits shirts, drawers, shawls, nubias, tidies, &c., &c.  With one of these machines a woman can make $2 per day.

[Ed. note:  A nubia is a light, knitted woolen head scarf for women.]

DIED – On the 2d of November, at the residence of his mother, four miles west of Pleasant Plain, George HIBBS.  He confidently expressed his belief that he would pass into the rest prepared for the righteous.  He had been lingering with consumption for some months, but his death was not expected so soon.

His father, Valentine HIBBS, was taken away about three months before, by an accident with a reaper.  He was thrown from his seat and had his leg broken.  It was amputated, and he died from the effects of it.
