What did he Mean.--- An incident occurred at BLEAK’s meeting at Brookville, which is worth recording. BLEAK was calculating, in his truthful (?) manner, the interest paid on the bonds, and after wandering through a mist, as intelligible to himself as it was to his hearers, he finally got the interest to the extraordinary rate of 22 per cent. annually. A hearer listened patiently until BLEAK reached this point, when he exclaimed: “Twenty-two per cent! That’s nothing; that’s not equal to forty per cent. in the Farmer’s Store --- there you never get the principal!” What did the man, mean?
For Recorder.--- We are authorized to announce the name of A. J. COMBS, of Locust Grove Township, as candidate for the office of County Recorder, at the ensuing election, subject to the decision of the Republican County Convention.
Mr. A. J. COMBS was first a member of “F” Co., 27th Iowa Infantry, afterward a member of “B” Co., M. M. Brigade, where he served over two years, passing the last five months of said services as clerk for Brig. Gen. Morgan S. SMITH, as Post Head Quartermaster, Vicksburg, Miss.
New Location---
Our old friend A. J. McKEMEY, has removed his saddlery shop to the building
in the rear of his old stand. Mac always had the reputation of being
a good workman and keeping on hand an excellent stock of saddles, harness,
&c. If you want your work done in a superior manner give him
a call, and you will be satisfied with his work and prices.
