This page is a listing of the Marriages taking place as reported in the 1898 Fairfield Weekly Journal from January through June, as that is all the newspaper issues we have for that year. Sometimes a definite date is mentioned and where this appears the day of the week is shown. Other times a specific date is not noted. Since the Journal was a weekly paper, published on Wednesdays, the paper may only have mentioned that a license was issued for a couple within the past week. Such a notation is followed by 'lic', indicating a license issued without mention of the date a wedding was to be held. Occasionally it isn't clear when a license was issued or a wedding performed; in those instances possible dates are indicated, followed by a question mark. As a general rule, marriage licenses are valid for 30 days.
