Mary Charlotte (Hiner) Runyan
Born: May 17, 1845 in Bartholomew Co., Indiana Mrs. Henry RunyanMary Charlotte Hiner was born in Bartholomew Co., Indiana, May 17, 1845, upon the death of her mother she was taken at the age of two years by the loving hand of her Grandmother Hiner who gave her the care and teachings of a Christian mother. When she was but eight years old her father departed this life and three years later she moved with her grandmother to Marion county, Iowa. On October 13, 1865, while making her home with an uncle she became the wife of Henry Runyan. They first made their home near Des Moines but moved from there to Boone county, Iowa, and later, in the year 1878, came to Jasper county near Colfax, where they have since lived until the death of the wife at 2:30 p.m. Friday, March 3, 1916, after an illness of three weeks. In 1898 Mrs. Runyan bacame a member of the Christian church at Colfax and has maintained her Christian stand until her death at the age of seventy years, nine months and sixteen days. Mrs. Runyan was the mother of nine children, four of whom with her husband are left to mourn her death, Mrs. Ida Barrett, of Greenland, Colorado; Mrs. Jessie Rogers, of Colfax, Iowa; Lanar and Charles Runyan of Goddard, Iowa; she leaves also thirteen grandchildren and a host of friends and neighbors to mourn her death. As she was cared for from infancy by a loving grandmother so she in turn cared for two of her grandchildren who lost their mothers while small children. Henry T. Runyan
Born: October 9, 1843 in Indiana5 Henry T. RunyanHenry T. Runyan was born in Vermillion County, Indiana, Oct. 9th, 1843, and passed away at his home near Goddard, Feb. 19th, 1923 at the age of 79 years, 4 months and 1 day. On Oct. 12th, 1865, he was united in marriage to Mary Charlotte Hines. To this union were born nine children of which six with the mother have preceded him. The remaining three, Lenar, Mrs. Jess Rogers of Newton and Charles at home are left to mourn the loss of a kind and loving father. He also leaves 13 grandchildrren, 6 great-grandchildren; two sisters and numerous other relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted from the residence near Goddard Monday afternoon at 1:30, Elder Q. V. Williamson, pastor of the Church of Christ, officiating. Interment was made in the Metz cemetery. William Arthur Runyan
Born: October 23, 1870 in Iowa William Arthur RunyanWilliam Arthur Runyan, son of H. T. and M. C. Runyan, of Sherman Township, died Thursday evening, March 25th, aged 16 years, 5 months and 2 days. He had been afflicted with rheumatism since last fall, which with other complications caused his untimely end. The funeral services were held Saturday at 1 oclock at Sugar Grove Church, Rev. C. C. Lanar Runyan
Born: March 20, 1867 in Iowa Runyan Services Are HeldFuneral services for Lanar Runyan who died at the local hospital Saturday, were held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Murdoch Funeral home with Rev. C. R. Green, pastor of the Methodist Protestant church here officiating. Burial was in the Sugar Grove cemetery. A trio composed of Rev. John Payne, Eli Mattox and E. B. Battles of Farrar, Ia., sang two selections, "Whispering Hope" and "The Old Rugged Cross." Rev. Payne also sang a solo, "When they Ring the Golden Bells." Pallbearers were brothers-in-law, Alfred Barrett, Virgil Henderson, Matt Henderson, William Henderson, Claude Webb and Tom Rogers. ~ Jasper County Record, April 16, 1931, page 5, column 5. |
