Henry Runyan
Henry Thomas Runyan, son of Mrs. Lena C. Raitt of Colfax
was born Feb. 1, 1907 and passed away June 6th, 1936 at
Wilton Junction, Iowa, aged 29 years, 4 months and 6 days.
[He was in an auto accident that killed a number of
young men from the Colfax area.]
He was united in marriage June 30, 1926 to Edna Mullihan
of Maxwell, Iowa and to this union were born five children,
three boys and two girls, Robert, 9; Eugene 7; John, 3;
Patricia Ann, 5 and Betty Jane, 1 year and 10 months.
Mr. Runyan graduated from the Farrar High School with the
class of 1925. He was a member of the Methodist Protestant
church at Farrar.
His entire life was spent on the farm until March 1,
1935, when he moved to Colfax and during the past year he
has been employed at Moline, Ill. It was while returning to
work there that he met his death in an auto wreck [five
other people were also killed].
Mr. Runyan was preceded in death by his father, Lenar
Runyan.
He leaves to mourn his passing his wife and five
children, mother, Mrs. Lana C. Raitt; two brothers, Earl of
Colfax and Carrol of Glenwood; two sisters, Mr. James
Pickles and Mrs. Gladys Battles of Colfax; two half
brothers, Guy of Marshalltown and Orley of Des Moines,
besides a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon at
Ashton Chapel, with Rev. Logan of Newton officiating.
Interment was in the Greencastle cemetery. ~ The Colfax

Earl Runyan Former Resident Died At Aurora, Illinois, August 7th
Earl Runyan of Aurora, Ill., formerly of Monroe and Colfax, died Friday, August 7, 1970, on his 55th birthday, at Copley Memorial Hospital in Aurora.
Services were held at 1 p.m. Monday in the United Methodist Church at Monroe with the Rev. James V. Poulson of Council Bluffs officiating. Burial was in the Monroe Cemetery.
Those surviving are his widow, Oleta; one son, Robert of Des Moines; two daughters, Mrs. Merritt (Janice) Van Roekel of Monroe and Mrs. Dennis (Lana) Richardson of North Liberty; five grandchildren; his mother, Mrs. Lena Runyan of Colfax and two sisters, Mrs. James (Mable) Pickles of Colfax and Mrs. Louis (Gladys) Teslik of Clear Lake.
Mr. Runyan was preceded in death by his father and four brothers, Guy, Arley, Henry and Carroll.
He was associated with Pfister Associated Growers, Inc. for 28 years.
The son of Lanar and Lena Henderson Runyan, he was born August 7, 1915, in Jasper County.
He was married to Oleta B. Emmack June 12, 1937 in Marshalltown.
