Thomas Rodgers Dies; Funeral to Be Held Thursday
Funeral services for Thomas Rodgers, 73, of Newton,
retired employee of the city gas department, will be held at
two o'clock Thursday afternoon at the Morgan Funeral
Home.
Mr. Rodgers died yesterday at his home here. He had been
in ill health for a number of years.
Rev. J. Wilfred Walker, pastor of the First Christian
Church, will officiate at the rites. Burial will be at the
Sugar Grove cemetery.
He was born Nov. 21, 1875, in Mahaska county, Ia., the
son of John and Margarite Rodgers. He married Jessie
Prudence Runyan of Colfax Apr. 9, 1902, in a ceremony in
Newton.
Mr. Rodgers moved to Newton from Colfax about 25 years
ago. He retired from his work at the city gas plant about a
year and one-half ago.
He maintained his membership in the Odd Fellows lodge of
Prairie City for many years. His church preference was the
First Christian church of Newton.
Mr. Rodgers' survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Clyde
R. Loupee of Oskaloosa; one son, Harold Rodgers of Yampa,
Col.; one grandson, Bob L. Rodgers of Des Moines; a
great-grandson, Bobbie and a number of nieces and nephews. ~

Mrs. Tom Rogers, 63, Dies Today Of Heart Ailment
Mrs. Thomas Rogers, 63, died at 2 o'clock this morning at
the Skiff Memorial hospital following lingering illness
aggravated by a heart ailment.
Funeral services will be held from the Morgan Funeral
Home, 2 p.m. Thursday with Rev. J. Wilfred Walker, pastor of
the First Christian church officiating . Burial will be in
the Metz cemetery.
Jessie Prudence Runyan, daughter of Henry T. and Mary
Charlotte Hiner Runyan, was born on a farm near Colfax,
March 29, 1883, and died in Newton, March 11, 1947 just 18
days before her 64th birthday.
She was married April 9, 1902 to Thomas Rogers at Colfax,
and to this union two children were born, a daughter, Mrs.
Clyde R. Loupee of Oskaloosa, and a son, Harold Rogers of
Yanta, Colo., both of whom with the husband survive. Other
survivors are a grandson, Robert L. Rogers of Yanta, and a
brother, Charles Runyan of Los Angeles, Calif., and several
nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Rogers was a member of the First Christian Church of
Colfax and was for many years active in the Rebekah and
Pocahontas lodges at Colfax. ~ The Newton Daily News, March
