LunnonDes Moines - Funeral services for Ila Lura Lunnon, 78, of 2934 Mahaska Ave., Des Moines, a former resident of Jasper County, will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, March 14, at the Wallace-Pence Funeral Home in Newton. The Rev. Harold Schutte, associate pastor of the Newton First Assembly of God, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Sugar Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 9 a.m. Thursday. Visitation with the family will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions to the Daughters of the Union Veterans of the Civil War will be accepted. She died of cancer Tuesday morning at the Iowa Lutheran Hospital. Survivors are two sons, William A. Danley and Ronald Dean Danley, both of Rt. 2 Newton; a daughter, Phyllis Hackley of Des Moines, nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Lewis E. Anthony and Francis L. Anthony both of Newton; two sisters, Fern (Mrs. J.A. Coffman and Mattie (Mrs. Harry) Acord, both of Newton. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, three sisters, and five grandchildren. [should be six brothers and three sisters, according to family records]. Mrs. Lunnon, a member of the Daughters of the Union Veterans of the Civil War, had worked at the Ankeny Ordnance Plant and the U.S. Air Force Depot in Des Moines during World War II and worked at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center as a dietitian until her retirement in 1972. The daughter of Lewis and Mattie J. Raines Anthony, she was born Nov. 8, 1907 in Croton and attended Metz School. She was married to Fred E. Lunnon July 4, 1948 in Indianola. Mrs. Lunnon had resided in Jasper county until 1937 when she moved to Des Moines where she resided until being taken recently to the Mitchell Village Care Center in Mitchellville. - Des Moines Register, March 13, 1986 |
