Obituary: Benjamin Buckley

Benjamin Buckley was born in Lankenshire, England, September 24, 1839, and died February 22, 1915, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. August Kletting. He also has two sons, John and Robert. He married Harriett Huff about fifty-five years ago. She and six children have preceded him in death. He came to America about forty-eight years ago and settled in Jasper county. Funeral For Mrs. Harriet Buckley Held Yesterday

While working in the garden at her home near Metz last Saturday afternoon, Mrs. Harriet Buckley was taken suddenly ill with a stroke of paralysis and she died at six o'clock Saturday evening.

She was born in Lancashire, England, August 10, 1830, and at the time of her death she was seventy-two years, eight-months and eleven days old.

In 1860, April 1st, she was united in marriage to Mr. Ben Buckley. To this union nine children were born, six of whom died in infancy.

In 1869 they came to America. They lived this side of Prairie City for many years and then moved to Newton where they lived on West Washington street before moving to the present home near Metz.

Mrs. Buckley is survived by her faithful husband, who is in very poor health, and three children, Mrs. August Kletting, who resides near Colfax, and John and Robert Buckley. She had one grandchild, Carl Kletting, who was very dear to her. She is also survived by one brother, Mr. Samuel Huff of Mound Prairie township.

Mrs. Buckley was a woman of lovely character and a strong christian faith. She was a faithful wife and loving mother and her loss will be deeply felt by her family and friends.

The funeral services were held in the Baptist church at Metz yesterday afternoon, Rev. J. S. Coppoc of Pella officiating. Interment was made in the church cemetery. ~ The Newton Daily News, April 23, 1912.

Obituary: Alice Huff

Alice Huff, whose death occurred at home some three miles southwest near Metz last Saturday, was born in .Lancashire, England, July 8, 1832. She was one of a family of thirteen children and but two now remain -- Mrs. Ben Buckley and Samuel Huff. Seven years ago she came across the ocean to make her home with her sister where her death occurred. Miss Huff was a woman of even disposition and was most kindhearted and will be greatly missed in the community. The funeral services were held from home yesterday afternoon, Rev. ? G. Thomas of the local Baptist Church officiating. Interment was in the cemetery at Metz. ~ The Newton Daily News, May 30, 1911.
