August Kletting, Colfax, Dies
At His Farm Home

COLFAX -- August Kletting, 78, Colfax area farmer, died at 7:28 o'clock Wednesday evening at his home of a heart ailment.

Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Friday at the Metz church. Rev. Clyde McDonald of Des Moines will officiate. Burial will be in the Sugar Grove Cemetery.

Mr. Kletting was born in Germany, but had come to this country as a young man, settling in the vicinity of Colfax. He married Lizzie Buckley in Newton. His wife preceded him in death several years ago.

Survivors include one son, Carl Kletting of Mound Prairie township, and one grandson, dean Allen Kletting. ~ The Newton Daily News, April 29, 1948

Elizabeth Kletting

Elizabeth Buckley, daughter of Benjamin and Harriett Buckley, was born at Oldham, England August 31, 1865 and died June 28 at her home in the Bear Grove neighborhood after an illness of several years.

At the age of three years she came with her parents to America and the family settled at Belvea, Ill. where they remained for 13 years. At the age of 16 she moved with her parents to Jasper County, Ia. where she spent the remainder of her life.

February 26, 1901 she was united in marriage to August Kletting and to this union one son, Carl, was born. She leaves surviving her husband, her son Carl and wife, Grace, two brothers, John Buckley and Robert Buckley, both of Des Moines and a host of neighbors and friends. ~ obituary provided by Donna Keltting of Prairie City, Iowa.

Carl A. Kletting Dies Saturday;
Services Today

MONROE -- Carl3 August Kletting, 60, of Rt. 1, Colfax, a longtime resident of Jasper County, died Saturday in his farm home.

Funeral services were held today in Garden Chapel Funeral Home in Monroe.

The Rev. Ben F. Buckingham, minister of Church of the Brethren south of Prairie City, conducted the services. Burial was in the Sugar Grove Cemetery near Metz.

Mrs. DeVayne Honnold was the organist.

Pallbearers were Hubert A. Slings, Floyd E. Smith, John W. Bell, Myron Brink, Russell Dillard and Lowell Dillard.

Survivors are his wife, Grace; a son, Dean A. of Prairie City, and a grandson, Terry D.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

The son of August and Elizabeth Buckley Kletting, he was born June 29, 1907, in Jasper County.

Grace Kletting

COLFAX, IA. -- Grace Kletting of Colfax died of a stroke Tuesday at Clearview Manor in Prairie City. She was 88. Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Walters-Coburn Funeral Home here, with burial at Sugar Grove Cemetery in Metz.

Mrs. Kletting, a homemaker, was born in Prairie City and lived in Colfax most of her life.

She is survived by a sister, Josephine Briles of Prairie City; a grandchild; and three great-grandchildren.
