C. Aillaud Dies At Age of 87
Long Time Jasper County Resident Succumbs at Home of Son.
Charles A. [sic-W.] Aillaud, resident of Jasper
county for over 70 years, died at 10:30 this morning at the
home of his son William L. Aillaud, 422 E 4th St. N. at the
age of 87. He had been in failing health for some time and
bedfast for the past two weeks.
Charles William Aillaud was born Oct. 20, 1856, son of
William and Catherine Aillaud, at LeClaire, Scott Co., Iowa,
and came to Jasper Co. in 1867 settling on a farm south west
of Newton. Here he lived until his retirement about 10 years
ago. On Sept 23, 1884, he was married to Addie Helphrey who
preceded him in death in 1937.
Survivors are two sons William L. Aillaud of Newton and Dr.
H. C. Aillaud serving in the Navy, stationed in Hawaii; two
brothers, Lewis of Newton and Fred Aillaud of South
Pasadena, Calif., also two granddaughters, Mrs. Dora Young
of State Center and Mrs. Lenore Skow of Newton.
Four sisters and one brother preceded him in death. Mr.
Aillaud was a member of the Daily News Three Quarter Century
club. He has lived with his son William during much of the
time since coming to Newton. Funeral arrangements are

Mrs. Aillaud, 74, Dies Wednesday
Life-Long Resident of Jasper County Dies After Long
Illness
Mrs. C. W. Aillaud, 74, life long resident in Jasper
county, died Thursday at 8:20 p.m. at the home of her son,
William J. Aillaud, 422 East Forth street North.
Mrs. Aillaud had been in poor health since September and
was taken seriously ill two weeks ago tomorrow.
Funeral services will be conducted from the Morgan
funeral home Friday at 1 p.m. by Dr. Harry J. Findlay pastor
of the First Presbyterian church. Interment will be in the
Sugar Grove cemetery near Metz.
Born in Metz
As Addie Maria Helphrey, Mrs. Aillaud was born June 21,
1863 on a farm near Metz, the daughter of Lewis and Anna
Maria Helphrey.
She spent her girlhood in that community and continued to
live there after her marriage Sept. 23, 1884, to Charles
William Aillaud.
Golden Wedding
She and her husband observed their golden wedding
anniversary while they were living on the farm near
Laurel.
Surviving relatives include her husband, C. W. Aillaud;
two sons, William L. Aillaud of Newton, and Dr. H. C.
Aillaud of Des Moines; two granddaughters, Dorothy and
Lenore Aillaud of Newton; a sister, Mrs. Susie E. Houck of
Des Moines and a brother Will Helphrey of Coeur d'Alene,
Idaho.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Ellen
Helphrey and Melissa C. Ramsey, and two brothers, Lewis
Helphrey and John B. Helphrey. ~ The Newton Daily News,

William Aillaud Services Monday; Dies on Friday
Funeral services for William Louis Aillaud, 70, of 1103
Woodland Drive, who died Friday morning at his home after
suffering a heart attack, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday
at the Morgan-Loehr Funeral Home.
The Rev. William Sexton, minister of the First Presbyterian
Church, will conduct the services. Burial will be in Sugar
Grove Cemetery.
Mr. Aillaud will lie in state after 2 p.m. Sunday at the
funeral home. Masonic rites will be conducted at the
cemetery.
A lifelong resident of Newton, Mr. Aillaud is survived by
his wife, Violet; two daughters, Mrs. Vernon G. (Dorothy)
Young and Mrs. Harold (Lenore) Skow, both of Newton; a
grandchild, and a brother, Dr. Harold C. Aillaud of
Algona.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mr. Aillaud was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, a
member and past master of the Palo Alto Grange and a member
and past president of the Newton Camera Club.
Mr. Aillaud, who for many years was a salesman for the
Northwestern Mutual Insurance Co.,was employed at Switzer's
Furniture Co. in recent years.
The son of Charles and Addie Helphrey Aillaud, he was born
Oct. 1, 1893 in Newton.
He attended Newton schools.
Mr. Aillaud was married to Violet Guthrie [Wilson]

Violet H. Aillaud Died Today, Rites Slated Saturday
Mrs. William L. (Violet H. ) Aillaud, 81 of 1103 Woodland
Dr., a longtime resident of Newton, died this morning at
Skiff Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the
Reese Chapel.
The Rev. William Sexton, pastor of the First Presbyterian
Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Sugar
Grove Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Reese Chapel after 10 a.m.
Friday.
Memorial contributions to the First Presbyterian Church
building fund will be accepted.
Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. William (Dorothy) Van Gorp
and Mrs. Harold (Lenore) Skow, both of Newton; and a
grandson, Martin Aillaud Young of Burlington.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her
husband.
Mrs. Aillaud was a member of the First Presbyterian Church,
Newton Camera Club and a former member of Palo Alto
Grange.
Mrs. Aillaud, who with her husband farmed southwest of
Newton until 1936 when they moved to Newton, had been a
receptionist for Dr. R.F. Frech from 1947 to 1964 and for
Dr. E. A. McMurray until retiring in 1968.
The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Wilson, she was born
July 3, 1897 in Missouri and was a 1917 graduate of Newton
Community High School.
She was married to William L. Aillaud Nov. 13, 1917 in Des
Moines.
During most of her years in Newton, she resided with the Ami
