Margaret Mahagan
My great-grandmother Margaret Mahagan was born in Boston, MA on 15 Dec 1876. Both of her parents are believed to have been born in Ireland.

She reportedly came west on an Orphan Train when she was approximately 6 years old. She was taken in by a family who lived south of Akron, Plymouth, Co Iowa. There was one other child taken in by the same family, name unknown. The family was suppose to adopted both children but never did.

After Margaret completed her obligation to the family, she moved to Elk Point, Union Co., SD. There she met and married my great-grandfather, Albert Harley Simons, on 28 Sept 1898. Their first daughter, Clara Mae (my grandmother), was born on 4 May 1900. Their second daughter, Fern Loretta, was born 27 Sept 1906. Fern Loretta died on 9 Jan 1919 of the flu. Albert died in 1957, however, Margaret lived to the age of 99, passing away in a nursing home in Akron, IA on 11 Feb 1976.

Grandpa Simons' parents, Joseph and Mary Caroline Simons, also lived in Elk Point, SD for many years. I am looking for information regarding the family who raised Margaret.
