Two floors of exhibits relating to the New London-Lowell area.  Restored railroad depot with train memorabilia and a "Tiny Chapel".  Genealogical, cemetery, and historical records are also available.

Harlan-Lincoln House, Mt. Pleasant

James Harlan was an Iowa Wesleyan College president, the first Republican U. S. Senator from Iowa, and a friend of President Lincoln. His daughter, Mary, married Lincoln's son, Robert Todd Lincoln.  Their three children spent summers here.
Hours: March - October, Wednesdays and Saturdays, 2 p.m. - 4 p.m.

Henry County Heritage Trust

Henry County Heritage Center, Mt. Pleasant

Henry County Heritage Trust's (HCHT) mission is to transform community landmarks into civic spaces and to preserve historic memories and artifacts in order to promote and celebrate Henry County and its people. The building was formerly Saunders Elementary School from 1917-1998. Displays cover both Mount Pleasant and county topics.

Lewelling Quaker Museum, Salem

Known as the Lewelling-Gibbs House by the National Park Service UGRR Network to Freedom, this museum serves as a center for the understanding of Quaker foundations of life west of the Mississippi, the abolition of slavery and the Underground Railroad, and the origins of the Pacific fruit industry from Salem and the Oregon Trail.

Van Allen House, Mt. Pleasant

This is the boyhood home of Dr. James Van Allen, space program pioneer. All four Van Allen sons were successful in their chosen careers. The Van Allen House is located adjacent to the Henry County Heritage Center.

Displays include a reproduction of Erickson's Toyland, a toy store open in the 1950s-1960s, a model of the biplane that landed at Eastern Iowa District Fair, plus local memorabilia. Town named after Gen. Winfield Scott.
