Scott Township 1870

73 North Range 5 West

Historical and Statistical.

Scott Township. - Mrs P Hockreiter, was the first settler in this Township; he coming 1836, and settled on section 9 where he still resides, his companions here for a time were the Indians, they always being on the most friendly terms. Black Hawk and Waupello, two noted chiefs being frequently at his cabin, some time afterwards came John Mailey, Alfred Gray, Joseph McCulley, Benjamin Shockley, James Richie, Adam Richie, Daniel Wilson, Thomas Alexander, John Shockley, E Shockley, Wm Cromwell, David Wallace, and John Lee. The Township is well watered, and there is considerable timber on Crooked Creek, in the north-western part of the Township. The farming lands are good and are well occupied by a good and thrifty class of farmers.
