NEW LONDON TOWNSHIP 1870

71 North Range 5 West.

Historical and Statistical.

New London Township was first settled in 1834, by A. C. Dover, on the south-west quarter of section 26, now owned by S. H. Dover.  Soon after came Peter Hall, John Dalson, Jacob Burge, F. Lee, R. Childs, and S. H. Dover.  The village of New London was laid out in 1837, by A. C. Dover.  Hedge and Sears were the first merchants, and John Kingkade, the first P. M.  Jonathan King, J. E. Linn, and John King, were also among the early settlers.  The Rail Road was completed, past this place in July 1855.  The Township has some timber, but many of the farmers go into Baltimore Township for their timber, joining this on the south.  All lands not covered with timber are fine farming lands.
