JACKSON TOWNSHIP 1870

Town 70 North, Range 6, West

Historical and Statistical.

Jackson Township - The first settlement in this Township was made in 1836, by one James Richie, on section 6, now owned and occupied by Mr. Ayers.  Soon after this came Larkin Johnson; William Williamson, Elijah Burton, Robert Price, J. C. Garrison, Jonathan Russ, A. Walter, J. Maxwell, George Jones, T. Frazier, John Johnson, and J. A. Edwards, and then followed on many others.  Its good water and heavy timber, and with its peculiar adaptation for the raising of fruits, very soon filled up all of the tillable land with an enterprising class of people, desirous of making that their permanent homes.  The Society known as the "Friends," are quite numerous, and have built a very nice and comfortable house of worship, known as the "Friends Meeting House."
