Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Lamb

In reply to the request of The Register asking for names of those having lived in Grundy county fifty years or more the writer will say that he came to Grundy Center in March, 1869, from Ogden, Utah, and was greatly impressed with the beautiful prairie land in this county and its wonderful productive soil. I decided at once that this was the place for Jonas Lamb to make his fortune by elbow grease. I had many hard knocks in pioneer days, as well as all the rest of the old settlers.

Mrs. Lamb (that wasn't her name then as she was here when I came and we didn't know each other) came to Grundy county from Onondago county, New York, in May, 1867, and she taught her first term of school here in what is known as the Morris Merritt district now. We were married in 1872 and lived on the farm until 22 years ago, when we moved to Grundy Center.
