Mrs. K. C. Kruger

Mrs. K. C. Kruger came to Grundy county from Forreston, Ill., in the year 1870. The year before, her husband, K. C. Kruger, and J. F. Abels went from Forreston to Council Bluffs. They had heard of Grundy county and they stopped here on their way back. They liked it well enough to buy land here, on which they built a home the next year when they came. The house they built was no bigger than an old-fashioned country schoolhouse and while it was being built the family lived with a neighbor. This house was built on the same site where Mrs. Kruger lives now. She has made her home there continuously for forty-four years. Parkersburg was the nearest railroad point at that time, where they hauled their goods and did their trading. Mrs. Kruger is now 74 years old. Her husband died in 1912.
