Lydia DeSeelhorst

Mrs. Lydia DeSeelhorst has not only lived in Grundy county probably a longer period of time than any other resident, but she has resided on one block for a period of sixty-four years. Following is her statement:

"Sixty-four years ago last October I came with my parents from Pennsylvania to Grundy Center and settled on the same block I now live on. We came by boat from Pittsburg, Pa., to Muscatine, Iowa. Father had a team of horses with him and while landing one of the horses jumped into the river, but was soon rescued. Father bought a wagon at Muscatine and we came overland to Grundy Center, where my brother was then living. As near as I remember there were only ten houses here. Mrs. Albert Clark, my sister, and myself have never lived over five miles from Grundy Center during that period."
