Grant Rebekahs Organized In 1916
Grant Rebekah Lodge No. 305 was instituted March 24, 1916, in the Thomas building with twenty-one charter members. Only two of these, Gus Posekaney and Ollie Johnson, are still members here. The first Noble Grand was Mrs. Fred Billman.We now have a membership of eighty-three. Three members have received the Decoration of Chivalry: Mrs. F. Petersen, Ollie Johnson and Susie Bromley. Six members received the bronze meritorious pin, Anna Sharup, Hilda Christensen, Lovina Jensen, Clara Posekaney, Susie Bromley and Barbara Ditzler.
We are proud to have three generations of Rebekahs in our lodge: Mother Anna Skarup, daughter Emma Posekaney, and granddaughter Charlotte Freese. We also have mother and daughter combinations: Mrs. Bob Hansen, Mrs. Ralph McKinder; Mrs. Anna Skarup, Mrs. Chas. Posekaney; Mrs. Louie Damm, Mrs. Virgil Nielsen; Susie Bromley, Mrs. K. Kilpatrick; Mrs. Chas. Posekaney, Mrs. Vernon Freese; Mrs. T. Petersen, Miss Vera Petersen.
We belong to a district convention and entertain this convention every four years. We also send a delegate to the State Rebekah Assembly.
We help to maintain the homes at Mason City. We also contribute to the educational fund, the Home Picnic fund and for the Theta Rho girls camping fund. We help to care for our sick members and assist at funerals of our members and their families.
Our work's foundation is taken from the Bible.
The Odd Fellows Lodge known as Grant 615 was organized Mar. 1910, with seven charter members, meeting in the Thomas building on South Main St. Working under a dispensation until after Grand Lodge Session in October 1910, when they were granted a charter.
The seven members were Albert A. Moore, W. G. Strayer, Walter Jensen, Gus Posekaney, Adolph Leibsohn, Dan Harrington. Three are still members here Gus Posekaney, Dan Harrington. Their first officers were Albert A. Moore Noble Grand; Gus Posekaney, Vice Grand; Adolph Leibsohn, Secretary.
In the fall of 1927 they bought their present building on N. Main St. They have a membership of eighty-five.
Mr. Gus Posekaney has received the badge of Decoration Chivalry, also a silver meritorious pin.
Grant 615 is a member of a four county convention: Grundy, Butler, Bremer and Black Hawk, and meet once a year for instruction in lodge work.
They also send a representative to the State Grand Lodge every four years. They support the homes for aged brothers and sisters and orphans at Mason City. They support the yearly picnic held at the homes for Odd Fellows, Rebekahs, families and friends.
