GRUNDY CENTER. Population, 1,500. The judicial seat of Grundy county, is an incorporated town located on the C., R. L. & P. Ry., 70 miles n. e. of. Des Moines. It dates its settlement from 1857. Has an electric light and steam heating plant, water works, fire department, banks, 6 churches and an excellent public school system. Two weekly newspapers, the Grundy County Democrat and the Grundy County Republican are published. The surrounding country is noted for fine stock raising, which is extensively engaged in by the farmers, there being numerous fine herds of thoroughbred horses, cattle and hogs.
